About the role
We publish: formatting and layout, cover design coordination, DOCX and PDF conversion to EPUB, KDP and print-on-demand setup, distribution, proofreading and translation. Some of that is client work and some of it is our own library of guides and workbooks. It is detail work with a hard pass-or-fail at the end — a retailer either accepts the file or it does not. As Ebook Production Specialist you own that pipeline from manuscript to a live listing.
What you’ll do
- Convert and format manuscripts into clean, valid EPUB — real semantic structure, working table of contents, embedded fonts where licensed, and no leftover Word artefacts.
- Lay out print interiors to the printer’s specification: trim size, margins, gutter, running heads, and a page count that does not break at the bindery.
- Set up and publish titles on KDP and print-on-demand, including metadata, categories, keywords and pricing, and fix the rejections when they come back.
- Configure wider distribution, and keep a title’s metadata consistent across every store it appears in.
- Proofread and copy-edit before conversion, and coordinate the cover with our designers so the spine maths matches the final page count.
What we’re looking for
- Published titles you worked on, with the stores they are on. This is a craft with visible output.
- Real EPUB competence — enough HTML and CSS to open the file and fix it, not only an export button.
- InDesign or an equivalent for print interiors, and familiarity with KDP’s actual requirements rather than its marketing.
- Patience for metadata. Most publishing failures are metadata failures.
- Spanish is a plus — we translate and publish bilingual titles.
Schedule
Contract, part-time — typically per title, roughly 8–20 hours a week depending on the queue. Mostly remote, with occasional on-site time at our Orlando office at Pipeline Workspaces, 20 North Orange Avenue.
About this posting
This is an open, evergreen posting. We keep it up whether or not there is a seat free this month, because the alternative — starting a search the week we need somebody — is how agencies end up hiring whoever is available instead of whoever is right. There is no deadline on it and no urgency to manufacture. If you are good at this, apply, and we will talk; if the fit is there and the work is not yet, we will tell you that honestly and keep your application on file.
Every application comes to us through this page. We do not post on Indeed or any other job board, and nobody at NeedAWebNow will ever ask you to pay for anything as part of applying.
